Acne is an embarrassing yet common skin condition that can affect nearly anyone regardless of age. There are various causes of acne. The most common cause is clogged pores that result in the accumulation of bacteria under the skin, although, many teens experience acne as their hormones fluctuate during their adolescent years.
If acne alone wasn’t embarrassing enough, acne can lead to scarring on the affected areas, leaving behind depressions and marks that last the rest of your life. These acne scars can be a constant source of emotional distress and lead to self-esteem issues and a lack of confidence.
At Avalon Laser, Dr. Reza Tirgari understands that acne scarring is an upsetting condition and a constant reminder of your past with acne. For those who currently have acne, it’s important to realize that popping, scratching, or picking at your acne can cause your face to scar. This is because once picked or popped, the skin’s tissue becomes inflamed, causing the immune system to work hard to repair the tissue damage. Unfortunately, scars usually result from this process.
However, there are multiple treatment options for those suffering from acne scars. During your consultation, Dr. Tirgari will evaluate the condition of your skin, as well as your current health status, to determine the best treatment for your specific needs. At our office, we offer the following scar removal techniques:
- Laser Scar Removal: Laser scar removal uses a fractional CO2 laser to resurface the skin. It works by applying the laser to deeper tissue levels, stimulating the growth of new collagen in the skin. Collagen is naturally-produced in the skin and helps to fill scarring and adds volume to the skin for a smoother appearance. The laser resurfacing process also removes the top layer of skin to expose the healthy layer beneath.
- Photofacial: A photofacial procedure also referred to as IPL treatment, uses intense pulsed light applied to the skin. The light pulses cause the skin to regenerate over time after the procedure, helping to remove scarring on the face.
- Microdermabrasion: This technique is the preferred method for eliminating mild acne scars. Microdermabrasion removes the skin’s dead cells and triggers the healing process. Several treatment sessions may be required to achieve the desired results.
- Chemical Peels: This procedure is a great scar removal treatment for those suffering from mild to moderate facial scarring. This technique works by cleansing the skin, opening the pores, and removing the superficial top layers of the skin to jumpstart the healing process.
While acne scarring can be a consistent source of embarrassment, there are treatments available to help you have reduced scarring and even smooth skin once again. Results may vary by individual, but Dr. Tirgari and his highly-trained staff will work with you to find the best solution so that you can love your appearance again.
