Your Treatment Options for Depressed Acne Scars

There are several treatment options for depressed acne scars, which include:

Acne Scar Surgery: This has become the least effective and most involved treatment. Today, there are various other, much more effective and easy treatment options that will not require incisions and significant downtime, so let’s go over the better treatment options for you.

Laser Skin Resurfacing: This treatment is the most effective in reducing the appearance of depressed acne scars. In fact, in one study, 158 patients ages 10 to 46 were treated with laser skin resurfacing and the results were excellent. All patients experienced reduction of visible acne scars to varying degrees. With laser sin resurfacing, the results continue to improve over 18 months. Dr. Tirgari is a licensed scar removal San Diego provider and treats acne scar patients at office locations in downtown San Diego and Carlsbad. Fillers: This is the most immediate remedy for depressed acne scars, but also temporary. We can use a wide range of dermal fillers, including Juvederm to fill in indented scars on the face and body. The filler works to increase collagen volume in the area, thereby, filling in indented scars. However, the filler treatment will last from three to 18 months, after which a follow up treatment is necessary.
Microdermabrasion and Chemical Peels: At Avalon Laser we can also use microdermabrasion or chemical peels to help fade and remedy acne scars. However, it is important to note that these treatments are reserved for mild acne scars that need to be faded and repeat treatment will lead to better results over time.
