Treating Carlsbad & San Diego Patients
Avalon Laser is a proud provider of Botox for Carlsbad and San Diego patients. Botox is a very effective cosmetic treatment that has been used to treat a range of medical and cosmetic conditions for more than 15 years. Botox is one of the most popular treatments made up of neurotoxic protein called botulinum toxin that is produced by the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. Botulinum toxin is sold commercially under the brand names Botox, BTXA, Dysport, Myobloc, Neurobloc, Xeomin, Botox Cosmetic, and Vistabel.
Botox temporarily relaxes the contraction of the muscles by blocking nerve impulses. As a result, the muscles stop contracting which causes the wrinkles to soften and relax. On average, it takes about two to ten days to start seeing the results from the treatment and the effects can last anywhere from 4-6 months. Once the wrinkles start to reappear, Botox patients may need to come back for additional treatments, however the fine lines are usually less severe since the muscles have not been active for a prolonged period of time.
Some of the most common Botox side effects include headaches, minor bruising, nausea and flue syndromes, although, very rare.
Botox is FDA approved to treat the glabella, or the “11’s”, off label is can also treat the horizontal forehead lines, crows feet, tiny bunny lines on the nose and provide a gentle brow lift. Some doctors also choose to use Botox to decrease the bands around the neck, reduce some lip lines and create a more youthful decollete. If you are looking to restore facial volume, including hollow cheeks, a Juvederm treatment may be the better option for you.
In some states, the law only allows a medical doctor to perform the injections, however in California Botox can be performed either by an MD, PA, NP or and RN. A busy practice, specializing in other aesthetic procedures, such as laser hair removal, chemical peels, fractional skin resurfacing etc, will usually have a “high volume” experienced injector. Often times, nurses with a substantial experience could provide comparable or even better results then a physician. A note to remember, just because a dermatologist specializes in acne, does not mean that he/she will be able to provide patients with a desired outcome.

Both men and women in San Diego complain about the creases in their foreheads and the lines between the eyebrows, or the elevens as many like to call them. Botox can uses to smooth out unwanted fine lines and wrinkles to create a younger, more youthful appearance. However, choosing Botox injections does not necessary mean that the patient has to be in their 40’s or 50’s!
Many young women and men opt out for the injection at a much younger age, even in their early 20’s. In today’s society it is not only important to hide the wrinkles but also to prevent them in the first place.
How Does Botox Work?
As previously mentioned, Botox is comprised of purified protein. When injected directly into the area of concern, Botox inhibits a chemical in the body that causes muscle contraction with each facial expression, such as frowning, smiling and so on. By relaxing these muscles, Botox not only smooths out the existing facial folds in the area, it also prevents further formation of deep lines and wrinkles. Botox is delivered in small doses that are per-determined by Dr. Reza Tirgari based on each Botox patient’s needs. Once injected, Botox results can last up to three months. touch up treatments are needed to maintain the results.

Botox does not require any downtime and patients can return to their routine, daily activities right away. Some patients my experience mild swelling and bruising at the injection site, which can easily be covered up with make up for a day or two. In most cases, Botox is a safe, low-risk injectable that allows our patients to improve their facial appearance and move on with their life. Botox Side Effects
As with any medicine, there are some possible side effects with Botox; however, not everyone who takes the drug will experience side effects. In fact, most people tolerate it quite well. If Botox side effects do occur, in most cases, they are minor and either require no treatment or are easily treated by you or your healthcare provider.
The effects of Botox are noticeable one to two days after the procedure and can last up to six months. Since Botox only stays in the body for a maximum of six months, any side effects associated with the medication will diminish after that time period. The common side effects include nausea, flu syndrome, respiratory infection, forehead and eyelid drooping, and headache. Less common Botox risks include symptoms that are generally associated with the injection. These include redness, pain, swelling, numbness, bruising, muscle weakness and bleeding. Normally, these symptoms generally subside within a week after injection.
