It is very common for people to experience dark circles and bags under the eyes, which can occur from a multitude of factors. Luckily, there are now multiple treatment options for improving dark circles and bags. One option is to use traditional IPL / Photofacial therapy to help target the pigment. This treatment is done once a month for as many sessions as are needed. The advantage to this treatment is that deeper pigment can be targeted, although multiple sessions are required. The second option is to use bleaching peels, which have the advantage of being much quicker but which do not target deeper pigment within the skin. A third option is to use a fractional CO2 laser to help target loose skin and tighten it. This treatment is also effective for dark eye circles pigment, although it is most effective at improving loose, crepe-like skin that sags below the eyes. A final option is to use the Thermage laser, which has been shown to be very safe and effective at targeting loose skin.
The huge advantages of both CO2 laser and Thermage is that both usually require only one treatment and that continued collagen formation and skin tightening will occur even up to six months after the session. Ultimately the choice of which treatment to use depends on each person’s preference and desired time of outcome.
